DPRPA Debuts on Animal Cops – PhiladelphiaNy Ny

October 6, 2008 - 10pm ET

Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA, Inc. is at work to help save Ny Ny, a red male Doberman Pinscher, confiscated from owners by the Pennsylvania SPCA when found confined in a back yard without food, water, comfort or companionship, emaciated and worm-infested, with seriously infected front legs.

In July 2008 our rescue was asked to help, Pam Taylor, Founder and Janna Weil, Foster Care Provider, visited the PSPCA to evaluate and hopefully accept Ny Ny into our care. We were awed by the tender and compassionate care given this dog by every shelter person we met, including Ray Little, Director of Adoptions, Rescue and Foster Care, Dr. Ravindra Murarka, Director of Animal Health, Agent Wayne Smith, and volunteer Beth, who escorted the dog throughout our time at the shelter, and with everyone seeing Ny Ny off as he departed with us to a new life.

Now our work begins. Ny Ny’s wounds are 70% healed but still require vigilant care. His coat will benefit from a high quality diet, supplementation, continued bathing and grooming. His thyroid levels will be rechecked after a few more weeks of medication for this deficiency. Ny Ny will be exercised, gradually building up his musculature, helping him to gain strength and stamina. During all of this, he will be socialized, meeting new people and animals, experiencing social interaction and living inside a house with new sights, smells, tastes and his own bedding.

And yet this is just another beginning for Ny Ny, who will need financial and personal support, possibly a second foster care provider, and finally, an adoptive home. Ny Ny is not the best looking purebred Dobe you will ever meet, but he is a quiet, contented dog with soft brown eyes and erect ears, looking for someone to love him and offer the good life he deserves.

Ny Ny’s rescue by PSPCA and foster care by DPRPA are documented in the upcoming third segment of Animal Cops Philadelphia, to be aired in early October on the Animal Planet station. Google “Animal Cops Philadelphia” to see the TV program schedule and to read more about this new series.

October 2008 Update:Jack (formerly Ny Ny of Animal Cops – Philadelphia) came out to DPRPA’s annual jamboree on September 14th, where this photo was taken. Jack has become a pleasant, content dog with flesh on his bones, trimmed toenails, healed lick granulomas and a shiny coat. Member Rhonda Salamon has opened her home and heart to Jack, where he’ll be cared for the rest of his life. Jack is now one of DPR’s two hospice dogs (the other is Phil).

Please check back from time to time for updates on Jack.
