Note: This rescue rarely will have puppies available. Our mission is to rescue Dobermans from shelters or who may be in abusive or neglectful situations or losing their homes. Please take the time to read an inspirational message by Norma Gurinskas about adopting an older dog entitled "Too Old."

SPECIAL ATTENTION:   We are seeking a very specific home for Gabby and therefore applications will be very carefully screened based on the bolded criteria below.   If you express an interest in Gabby on your application, please pay particular attention to providing as much detail as possible on these areas of your application.

Because  Gabby is an exceptionally beautiful dog and comes from a very long line of champions,  we expect an overwhelming amount of interest in her.  While all applications will be reviewed, we apologize in advance if we are not able to provide a timely response to you.  Our immediate attention and response will be to those that FULLY meet the following criteria:

  • EXTENSIVE PRIOR DOBERMAN EXPERIENCE with knowledge of the breed’s traits and behaviors
  • HAS TRAINED a Doberman in obedience, rally-o, agility, CGC or therapy dog, etc.
  • HAS LARGE, FENCED YARD (no invisible fencing!)
  • WILL PROVIDE REGULAR, HIGH-ENERGY AND/OR FOCUSED EXERCISE
  • NO CATS or furry, feathered caged animals (inside or outside)

Gabby is a beautiful, 3 year old, spayed female, cropped and  docked, well-mannered, well-bred, intelligent, and easily trained.  She LOVES kids, toys, balls and soccer.  She is young and high energy and will play for hours.  She will have her favorite toy, such as the very worn & ugly soccer ball pictured here.  Gabby

Gabby came from a well-intended family that lived in Manhattan with three kids under age 9.  However, they were not knowledgeable about the breed.   Gabby was about 20 pounds overweight and not properly socialized.  Her family listened to all the wrong people who viewed the dog/breed as vicious and instead of allowing her to socialize properly, they would panic and pull her away which reinforced a rather aggressive dog.

Since coming to DPRPA foster care about 8 months ago, Gabby has gone from 88 pounds to a perfect 67 pounds.   She has been through a lot of rehabilitation and, having recently lived with 6 other dogs, is no longer showing signs of her previous dog-aggression.  She is now low end of the pack and plays, sleeps, and eats with the other dogs.  Her soft side and motherly instincts also kicked in when she decided to “adopt” a 13-week old puppy.

Gabby is a fun dog that loves kids, life and all people.  We would prefer to place her in a home with children since she is so drawn to them and would love to have kids willing to play soccer with her, clearly her favorite sport.  Regular, active or focused exercise and tGabbyraining will be required as she is not only high energy, but extremely intelligent and needs to exercise both her mind and body.  Because of her high prey drive and determination to run down wildlife and cats, she needs a real fenced in yard; not an electric fence that she could most likely run through.  She is very driven and fast and would be an awesome agility dog.

It is critical that she finds an experienced doberman owner/home that can satisfy her level of determination, intelligence and energy that comes from her breeding, as well as someone who knows how to properly introduce her to other dogs and recognize situations where she wants to test her dominance.  If you can provide that home, please fill out and submit an online application providing details around your previous doberman experience, training experience, yard environment, how you will exercise, and other animals in your home.  If you are limited in the amount of info you can provide on the application on your qualifications to adopt Gabby, please send additional details in an email to contacts@dprpa.org and enter "Gabby" in the subject field.
