Fran

Hello Jen and Pam,

I just wanted to tell you thank you again for Fran.  She has been such a joy to have and is definitely queen of the castle at our house!  She is wonderful with the boys and even learned to stop chasing the cat…sometimes we even catch them sleeping together!  She is the perfect compliment to our family and lifted our spirits in light of what happened to Phantom.

I am attaching pictures.

Thank you so much,

Jessica Doll

Nemo

Jen,
Hope all is well with you, here is an update.
It's hard to believe a full year has passed since we adopted NEMO.

Nemo is doing great, we have had no problems at all with his health in the past 12 months, and he now has the full run of the house if we do go away for a few hours.  Nemo has learned to be a "Good Boy", and no longer needs to be confined, or crated indoors.

All of the Appalachian Trail hikers that attended the big hiker feed, and 3 day party at the park in Duncannon on July 4, 5, and 6th, have now passed through our area too, and are on their way to Maine.
Nemo has enjoyed meeting lots of new friends along the Appalachian Trail in the past year, and going along BMX bike racing on weekends, with his best friend, John III.

We love Nemo so much, thanks to Pa Dobie rescue, and you too, for being a great foster mom, and finding the right home for Nemo.

  Luke

Nancy,

Luke is doing fine. We are all used to each other now.  He still likes to
test us, but we understand it now.  He has not gotten into anything at all.
We take him out on walks.  Mikey gets him running around.  The two of them play really good together.  He is a real good boy.  I got the info you sent on the training classes. I would like to try to take advantage of them some time soon. Here are a couple of pics.

Thanks for all. I hope you are having success with all the other puppies.

    NEVA

Hi Jen!

Hope this finds you well. Neva continues to thrive and do wonderfully here with us! Sadly this past Tuesday I had to put my 15year old  Lab/Dobie mix down. It was such a devastating event for our family. As devastating as it was, it was comforting to come home to Neva and Hemi who had offered nothing short of  their quiet and gentle love as they laid quietly next to me for the next couple days. As if they knew.

Neva and Hemi are like two peas in a pod, let me tell you. Quite the comedians in the way they talk to one another, I often joke and say it sounds like a "Wild Sea Lion Convention" in here! I don't know who is louder, Hemi or Neva and sometimes I have to send them out back to play because I can't hear myself think!! Ha ha! She is a very sweet, gentle and loving dog, none of that has changed since she came here and if anything she has gotten more so. She is very, very easygoing and she will let you do anything with her, honestly she will!

JOEY

Here  are  a  few  pic's  of  Joey  coming  with  us  to  get  his  1st  x-mas  tree  at  our  house  and  helping  decorate  the  house.

We  had  about  3  inches  of  snow  and  he  loves  to  play  with  all  the  kids  in  the  yard,  I  need  to  make  him  a  fleece  sweater  since  he  enjoys  the  outdoors  so  much.

STANLEY

Hi Jen,

Just thought I would drop a line and tell you how Stanley has been doing since we adopted him back in April. I am attaching a bunch of photos and I'm hoping you'll be able to open all of them and see how he's grown into a very good looking boy! Stanley is now weighing in at 85 pounds
of pure muscle - there is not an ounce of fat on this boy! he is so strong and I often have to be careful since he can really knock people over. He's very happy and extremely playful. He has endless energy and loves to go everywhere with us! He frequently comes to work with me and
is very well behaved. Everyone loves to stop by and visit him to say hello and pet him behind the ears which he loves.

Stanley is VERY smart and is not always the best listener (his own choice, of course). We went
to a few classes together and I know he could really benefit from a few more obedience lessons. He's eager to learn, but tests me all the time to see if he can get away with things - he's a very sneaky guy and has mastered a very quiet eating technique when he doesn't want me to hear
him chomping away at the cat food:) (haha) We're having a lot of fun together and he always likes to climb into bed with me ALL the way under the covers in the morning after he goes for a walk.

Stanley loves to eat vegetables and apples with peanut butter and loves to play with my
sisters dog Penny when we go home to Maryland for visits. You'll see them playing pretty rough in some of the photos!

Anyways, hope all is well with you and that you and your dogs are
healthy and happy. Have a happy holiday and hope to hear from you soon.

-Vanessa

STORMY

Nancy,

She has made our Christmas.

Thank You Melissa

VINNIE

Hey Nancy!

I just wanted to let ya know how well Vinnie did last evening. We got home and he came right out of the car with no problems. We kept him outside for a little while and he didn't do anything, so we took him inside and had 2 accidents, but we took him directly outside after that. He and Ruby played for most of the night last night, and when we gave him a shower, Ruby was a little upset and pee'd outside the bathroom door, which is not like her at all. I think she was just mad at us. For bedtime, he went into his crate and Ruby didn't want to leave him alone, so we had to put a gate up in out bedroom and she slept on her bed, not even on ours all night! He ate well this morning and went outside already, no accidents yet (knock on wood)! He is already afraid of the spray bottle, and knows when he does something good, he goes right to where the treats are!
I think we lucked out with him! He's a great dog!
Thanks,
Lyndsay and Chris

Nancy,

Just wanted to let you know Adam had a great Thanksgiving.  We had Kris' parents and her aunt and cousin down to our place.  Adam was so well behaved.  He didn't jump on anyone and politely distributed his patented ear  kisses.  I've been having some problems with my email so I can't send any photos right now.  He looks great though and has been making sure the deer don't spend too much time in his yard.  We go for walks in the woods and his nose is to the ground the whole time.  An old country buffet of smells for he and Lucy.  The cats are finally starting to come downstairs.  They've figured out they can push Adam around with a hiss and a swat on the nose. He gets this "what did I do I just want to play" look on his face which is hilarious.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.  Take it easy.

Mark

Hi Shirley, just a quick note to let you know Coby is doing beautifully.  As you had predicted, he had a day of adjustment.  He pooped a couple times down in the family room.  We had a long talk and I'm proud to say he did his business 3 times on Sunday outside.  He also did his business outside this morning before I went to work and again when I got home.  I'm enclosing some pictures for your enjoyment.  Thanks for being so warm and kind.  He was very well taken care of.  I'll keep in touch.  Your friend,  Jeff

Hello there,

Neva continues to do wonderfully and we feel truly blessed to have her in our lives. She is such a sweet, sweet girl, who wants nothing more than love and adoration and in return she gives twofold back. She is quite the little Pixie and loves to play with Hemi.  She is so mild mannered and delicate in comparison to what we are used to with  Hemi who is such a big guy! (lol).  She listens very, very well. She tends to get a little nervous on the leash with cars driving by, but is doing better daily.

She is your typical velcro-dobie and never rests until one of us settle down and sits for awhile, where she will climb up and fall fast asleep. I have enclosed some pictures.

Thanks again for bringing her to us.

Denise and Greg Yerger.

APOLLO

Hello everyone, we wanted to share some pictures of Apollo with his new family.  Apollo has the red (& blue) collar; Carmella is in the light purple collar, and then the two Jacks.. Bandit has the orange collar and Princess has the dark purple collar. As of this evening Apollo has been with us three days and he is doing great, he is becoming more and more comfortable with his surroundings.  He is no longer acting shy, he wiggles his entire butt and gets all excited when we call him.  He is doing great with all three dogs and he has begun eating almost a normal portion of food.  He loves to play ball.  And he knows the Doberman lean.

RUBY

Hello Nancy!
I wanted to send you some pictures to show you how happy our little miss Ruby is. Her and Lucy FINALLY took to each other and are now best friends (even though they both tend to get a little jealous of each other at times). She has been a wonderful addition to our family, helping with the recent loss of Jake. I also included some sweet pictures of him, since I know you loved him so much! Keep in touch!

Meet Becca a black and rust female with natural ears and a docked tail, DOB April, 1996.  This sweet girl has had more than her share of unfortunate luck.  Her original owner adopted her from the Lancaster County Humane League in August 1996, and released her to DPR of PA due to her “destructiveness” she was left alone for and average 10-12 hours a day un-crated at just under a year old.

Becca is now on her 7th adoption and this one is beyond perfect, she has now found her forever home.  Her high number of adoptions are not a reflection on her rather a long streak of unfortunate luck.  Becca was most recently fostered by Shirley and adopted to Doreen & George. She is now 11 ½ years old and just had a successful surgery. Read about it below, as Doreen shares her story with Shirley.

 ~~~~
Since my last conversation with you both, Becca’s condition continued to deteriorate.  Wednesday before Thanksgiving, George called me at work around 10:00 am to say Becca was not walking.  I immediately left work to go home and in the meantime, George called the vet to get Becca in to see our doctor to either get stronger pain medication or something stronger to ease her pain.  We had hoped it would not turn into a situation we were both dreading.  We had an appointment with a neurologist in Valley Forge the next Tuesday and had hoped our vet could give us strong enough meds to get Becca through until then.  She gave is 2 more meds to add to the Rymadil and increased that medication.  Everything came to a halt Friday night.  My daughter heard Becca cry and I found her stuck on the steps, frozen, unable to move.  We tried coaxing her down with sweet talk and then treats.  Pour Becca was so scared and had been shaking uncontrollable for about 10 minutes.  I called George to make sure he was coming right home from work, informing him that Becca was stuck and I was afraid to try and move her.  She was at an odd angle and was afraid to hurt her or myself, so we waited.  George also tried to get her to move on her own, to no avail.  He carried her to the top landing and once on her feet she cried in pain.  My heart dropped.  I could not believe this was happening, it couldn’t be.  Becca made it to her bed and there is where she stayed.  We took turns watching her & keeping her calm.  George’s parents came over to see her 10 o’clock that night, as we were unsure what tomorrow would bring.  We called the hospital the next morning to see if they could take her in and keep her medicated until her appointment, they said yes to bring her down.  It was a very sad site to see Becca being wheeled into the hospital on a stretcher, paws clenching the stretcher mat in fear.  We visited before leaving and told out little girl how much we loved her and that we would be back tomorrow to see her, as we did.  The neurologist was able to see her first thing Monday, called George and said Becca had severe spinal compression & felt surgery would correct it.  George opted to go ahead with surgery.  After the surgery, the doctor called to say Becca was doing well and was still in recovery but trying to stand on her own.  A good sign!  We called for an update later that night and were told Becca was eating & going outside to do her business!  Needless to say, we picked her up Tuesday night and brought her to “grandma’s house” for her recovery.  She cannot do steps, be around other animals that might bump her, no playing, just strict bed rest with limited area to roam. ( grandma is a former “people” nurse and grandpa is a pharmacist. Grandma’s house has no steps & keep her confined to one room, unlike our house…so Becca is in great hands )
I cannot even begin to tell you what a wonderful sight it was when Becca walked out with the nurse to go home with us.  She was pulling for the door and was ready to go home.  She was so happy to see us and kept pressing against my leg until we left.  Hard to believe that 3 days prior she was wheeled in on a stretcher and today she walked out on her own accord.  Our girl has a strong will to live and has proven it over and over to us these past few weeks.  I know we made the right choice for her, although very difficult.  We love her so very much, as does everyone that comes in contact with her.
Thank you for all your doggie prayers for our sweet Becca.  We appreciate them.
Doreen & George
