Help us to help them...
DPR of PA is a non-profit, charitable organization and relies on its volunteers to achieve its mission in placing homeless Dobermans into responsible pet homes and informing the public about the breed.
We always need quality foster homes so that we do not turn away a doberman in need.
....Without foster homes, dogs stay in shelters where Dobermans are well known for the way that they quickly deteriorate.
.....Without foster homes, dogs stay in neglectful and unwanted environments.
.....Without foster homes, dogs are taken to shelters where they are commonly misunderstood, evaluated by people that do not necessarily know what they are looking at and not factoring in the extreme stress they are under. Some have injury or illness that make them act defensive or fearful (consider your reaction when you are hurt and are in pain). Some have come from a loving home where they were sleeping on a sofa with family to be dumpted at a shelter due to our economy, people losing their jobs and homes. They are now thrown in a loud, cold, sometimes old and dirty cement cage with people walking by them sticking their fingers at them. They are going to react differently. The shelters are so overwhelmed they cannot possibly give each animal what they need.
It's rescues and foster homes that give a lot of dogs the best second chance we can. Yes, it hurts to let them go after you have nurtured and bonded with them. You might cry a little, but you brush yourself off and SAVE the next one. Unfortunately there will always be a next one for you to put that energy into. When you have saved an emaciated, abused dog that is moments from being gassed (most dogs are so forgiving no matter what they have gone through) and the you see them in their new home, healthy with a new family and a wonderful life with toys and treats and food and hugs and kisses and a soft bed, you will know that it is worth it. Just by saving this dog at this moment is our definition of unconditional love. Anyone that has had a Doberman knows that feeling for themselves, so let's give it back. Far worse than the sadness you feel when the dog moves on to a good life is having to say "no we don't have room, I can't help," never to hear from them again.

Help us make a difference
Whatever you choose, you will help a homeless doberman.
We need people to donate time, energy and experience in a variety of areas, including administration, home visits, transportation (for dogs and food), technical and more.
