The Silas Dulak Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program

Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA, Inc. is happy to introduce The Silas Dulak CGC Program.

The mission of DPRPA is to place purebred Doberman Pinschers into responsible pet homes, while informing the public about the breed.

Dobermans are energetic working dogs that thrive on positive attention and intelligent handling.  We want to encourage adopters to train their dogs to be well-mannered "canine good citizens" and ambassadors for the breed.

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program was created by The American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1989 to acknowledge dogs that have good manners at home and in the community while stressing responsible pet ownership and basic good manners.

This training can also lay the foundation for dog sports such as rally obedience, agility, flyball, and more.

As you work with your dog to learn the CGC skills, you'll discover some of the benefits of training, such as improved communications and an ever-deepening bond with your canine companion.  There is no age limit for the 10-step CGC test which consists of your accomplishng these tasks:

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger

  2. Sitting politely for petting

  3. Appearance and grooming

  4. Walking on a loose leash

  5. Walking through a crowd

  6. Sit and down on command and staying in place

  7. Coming when called

  8. Reaction to another dog

  9. Reaction to distraction

  10. Supervised separation

Who doesn't want a dog that can do all these things?

To encourage the two of you to accomplish this, DPRPA will award adopters the cost of the CGC class (up to $150), or a free 5-year membership to DPRPA (including a subscription to the Doberman Dispatch) for those who successfully obtain the CGC certificate for a dog adopted through our rescue.
