ABOUT
Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA, Inc. was founded in 1986 by Pam Taylor and incorporated under its present name in 1989. It started with Shogun, an underweight dog that was being surrendered at the West Chester shelter by his owner in the military who could not keep him. After learning that he could not depend on the friends and neighbors he trusted to care for the dog, he brought him to the shelter the same day that Pam was picking up a donation box. After going home, Pam knew she had to help this dog and brought him home. After numerous phone calls over about a one-week period, a friend called back and had found Shogun a home -- and Pam had found her calling.
DPR of PA continues to place homeless dobermans with families mostly within southeastern Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, as well as parts of western Pennsylvania. Applications are accepted for forever homes as far away as NJ, MD, VA, CT, and MA as long as applicants are willing to travel to meet the dog in its foster home.
All Dobermans that come into our rescue receive a full physical and behavorial exam and temperament evaluation which helps match them with an appropriate family. In addition, the organization serves as a resource to educate and assist new Dobe owners. Our organization is a valuable resource to new Dobe owners and we are here to offer knowledgeable advice during the initial adoption adjustment period.
